    Following a period teaching art in Kansas, Walker accepted a position at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1954, where he remained until 1959. As he explained, a good artist “paints what he sees, lives, thinks, and feels,” not necessarily inventing images but portraying impressions—a subjective interpretation of the world around him. Perhaps his most celebrated work is L.H. Double O.Q., playfully referred to as his "Eisenhower Mona Lisa." This satirical piece, which won an award at the 1964 Art Institute of Chicago show, directly references Marcel Duchamp’s iconic defacement of the Mona Lisa, adding a layer of social commentary to Walker's already complex artistic language. He didn’t merely replicate Duchamp’s gesture; he expanded upon it, creating a work that was both visually arresting and intellectually stimulating. James F.
