The story of Daniel Mijtens the Younger begins in The Hague, where he entered the world on 7 August 1644. He was born into a lineage of painters, the son of Daniel Mytens the Elder. This ambitious composition, which depicts the children of Diederic Pietersz van Leyden van Leeuwen and Alida Paets, uses a garden setting and classical motifs to weave a narrative of lineage and legacy. It is a work of great detail, where each child is assigned a symbolic attribute, from a globe to a sword, to tell their story. This significant piece remains preserved today within the collection of the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, Netherlands.
