Early Life and Artistic Beginnings Emil Nolde, en anerkjent tysk-dansk maler, ble født Hans Emil Hansen den 7. august 1867 i Nolde, Schleswig-Holstein, Tyskland. Han kom fra en familie med sterke bånd til det landlige livet og religiøse overbevisninger – faktorer som ville forme hans kunstneriske visjon dypt. Til tross for innledende motstand fra foreldrene sine, som heller ønsket han skulle følge en mer konvensjonell karriere, fulgte Nolde utrettelig sin lidenskap for kunst. Han begynte med å arbeide som treskjærer og møbelprodusent før han dedikerte seg fullt og holdent til maleri i slutte…
