Nicola Marschall: Life and Legacy Early Life and Education Born: Strasbourg, Germany (then St. Wendel, Prussia) in 1829. Marschall hailed from a wealthy Prussian family involved in the tobacco merchant business. He emigrated to the United States in 1849, initially settling in New Orleans, Louisiana, before moving to Mobile, Alabama and eventually Marion, Alabama.
