Gabriel Metsu
Gabriël Metsu Gabriël Metsu (Leiden, januari 1629 – begraven Amsterdam, 24 oktober 1667) was een Nederlandse kunstschilder uit de Gouden Eeuw. Hij schilderde veel genrestukken, waarvan sommige ook als portretten kunnen worden gezien. Metsu staat bekend om zijn zilveren coloriet, de beheersing van de lichtinval en de verborgen erotiek. Lang heeft Metsu nogal in de schaduw gestaan van de Delftse kunstenaar Johannes Vermeer, waardoor zijn werk niet de erkenning en waardering heeft gekregen die het verdient.
