    Born in the textile town of Lodz, Poland, Jankel Adler lived a life defined by movement and the heavy shadows of history. Forced to leave Germany, he sought refuge in Paris, but the onset of World War II brought even greater upheaval. In the quiet of Kirkcudbright and later Glasgow, his work took on a different resonance.
