Paris, 1898. The life of Lucien Victor Félix Delpy begins in the heart of the French capital. A Shift Toward the Coast
1931 marks a definitive change in direction. The focus shifts from the structured classrooms of Paris toward the windswept landscapes of Brittany. Delpy becomes a marine painter. He finds his subject matter in the movement of water and the architecture of the coast. His gaze settles on the harbors, the docks, and the rhythmic life of maritime communities.
The work takes on a specific character during this period. He captures the heavy labor of the ports and the local customs of the region. Some scenes focus on the industrial pulse of the quays, while others turn toward the people, such as the Bigoudènes traveling to the Chapelle Notre-Dame-de-la-Joie in Penmarc'h.
