Gimęs 1659 m. liepos 18 d. Prancūzijos Perpiganje, Rigaud asmens kilmė buvo glaudžiai susijusi su menu – jo senelis buvo paveikslų dažytojas ir aukasininkas. Pradėjęs mokytis siuvėjo amatą savo tėvo dirbtuvėse, jis netrukus atraso aistrą tapinti paveikslus.
