Robert Field (1769-1819) was a leading miniaturist painter active in England, the US & Canada. Known for neo-classical portraiture, he painted prominent figures like George Washington and captured 19th-century society with accomplished skill.
Field copied Gilbert Stuart"s 1803 portrait of the Scottish-born Baltimore merchant Robert Gilmor Sr. (1748-1822). Stuart"s portrait is in the Baltimore Museum of Art.
