A Seated Monkey, Jan Weenix, before 1685
Janas Veniksas (1641 – 1719)
Jan Weenix (1641-1719): olandų baroko meistras, garsėjantis detalžiais avimienos natūralaus buities paveikslais, medžioklės scenomis ir peizažais. Admiruojamas dėl realizmo bei ryškių spalvų.
Against a light brown background is a skull monkey (A Squirrel Monkey), surrounded by a dark brown shadow, on a table edge or window sill. The animal holds a nut in its right leg, while its left front and hind leg clamps the edge of its substrate. His tail hangs smoothly over the edge, with the tip falling just outside the image plane. Meanwhile, the monkey draws the attention of bystanders or passers-by.
