Born in Chicago, United States, Karl Benjamin began his journey into the world of art quite unexpectedly. While serving in the U.S. Navy during World War II, he later moved to California to study English literature, history, and philosophy at the University of Redlands. Throughout his career, he balanced his studio practice with a long tenure as a teacher, including a role as a professor and artist-in-residence at Pomona College.
