June Leaf was an American visual artist whose creative practice spanned painting, drawing, and sculpture. Born in Chicago, United States, she studied ballet and later enrolled at the Institute of Design at the Illinois Institute of Technology, where she took classes with Hugo Weber. Her journey took her to Paris in 1948, where she focused on identifying patterns and abstraction. In 1960, she moved to New York City, and by 1970, she had established a home and studio on the western coast of Cape Breton in Mabou, Nova Scotia.

Her sculptural work, including Making # 2, utilized materials like wire, copper, and a sewing treadle to create figures that move when the device is operated.
