The Foundations of a Master Hua Junwu, a name that resonates with the profound shifts of twentieth-century Chinese history, began his artistic odyssey in the serene landscapes of Hangzhou. Born in 1915, his early education was a delicate balance between the emerging influences of Western art—facilitated by his father’s ties to the Shanghai Art Academy—and the deep-rooted traditions of Chinese classical mastery. of legendary figures such as Lu Xun that Junwu truly found his voice, honing a skill set that married the precision of calligraphy with the expressive power of traditional painting.
