Early Life and Activist Roots Harry Gamboa Jr., born in Los Angeles in 1951, emerged from a crucible of social and political upheaval that indelibly shaped his artistic vision. Growing up in East Los Angeles during the height of the Chicano Movement, he witnessed firsthand the struggles for civil rights, educational reform, and cultural recognition.
