The Life and Artistic Evolution of Rudolf Hausner
Born in Vienna, Austria, Rudolf Hausner was a painter, draughtsman, printmaker, and sculptor. His early education took place at the Schubert Realschule and the Realgymnasium Schottenbastei in Vienna, followed by studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna from 1931 until 1936 under Carl Fahringer and Karl Sterrer. His formative years were marked by significant historical shifts, including being drafted into the Austrian Armed Forces in 1937 and later the German Armed Forces. During his time in the Russian Tatra Mountains, he had a traumatic log cabin experience that would later be reflected in his works. Following the war, he returned to his studio in Vienna and co-founded a surrealist group with artists such as Edgar Jené, Ernst Fuchs, and others.
