Eddy briefly engaged in PhD coursework in art history at the University of California, Santa Barbara while continuing to paint. By 1970, he transitioned from earlier mixed-media and figurative work towards car culture imagery and embraced the Paasche H airbrush, a tool that would become central to his artistic practice throughout his career.
