A Life of Service and Art

George Swinton was a Scottish politician and officer of arms. Born in Edinburgh, he was the second son of Archibald Campbell Swinton and Georgiana Caroline Sitwell. He pursued studies in art under Professor Herkomer and other masters. Beyond his artistic studies, Swinton had a distinguished military and political career. He served as a captain in the 71st (Highland) Regiment of Foot and later held various roles within the London County Council, including serving as Chairman. His civic contributions extended to roles such as Deputy Lieutenant for the County of London and his appointment as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire.

In the realm of heraldry, Swinton held significant positions, serving as Albany Herald of Arms in Ordinary and as Lord Lyon King of Arms and Secretary to the Order of the Thistle. His family legacy is notable, as he is the great-grandfather of the actress Tilda Swinton.
