A heavy silence settles over the canvas. The Archbishop sits in a three-quarter pose, his body angled slightly away while his gaze drifts toward the left of the frame. He is a man of shadows and stark light. The darkness of the background presses inward, forcing the viewer to focus on the pale, steady presence of his face and the pale grip of his hands. Three men sit anchored around a wooden table, their silhouettes etched against the dim light of a tavern. The air in the room feels heavy, thick with the scent of spilled spirits and unspoken words. The portrait presents an elderly gentleman, captured in a bust-length composition that emphasizes psychological depth. Positioned slightly off-center, the subject gazes toward the viewer's left, creating an intimate, quiet connection. The lighting is dramatic, utilizing a chiaroscuro effect where a strong light source from the upper left defines the facial structure, the texture of the white beard, and the deep wrinkles of age.

  • Huomattavia malleja: Sir Alfred East, Winifred Cavendish-Bentinck (Portlandin herttuatar), Lady Louise Mountbatten (Ruotsin kuningatar), Vita Sackville-West, paavi Leo XIII, Augusta Victoria (Saksan keisarinna), prinsessa Alice of Battenberg ja monia muita.
  • Arvostus ja tunnustukset: Nimetty Royal Victorian Orderin (MVO) jäseneksi kuningas Edward VII:n toimesta vuonna 1909. Aatelistettu Unkarin kuningas Franz Joseph I:n toimesta vuonna 1912, jolloin hän otti nimekseen ”de László de Lombos”.

He saivat kuusi lasta ja seitsemäntoista lapsenlasta.
