Early Life and Artistic Training Born in 1915, Evald Okas began to find his voice within the classrooms of the State Art School in Tallinn. It was here that his formal artistic training took root, establishing the technical foundation that would define his later career. His early years were marked by the quiet discipline of a student honing his craft in the Estonian capital. The trajectory of his life was abruptly altered by the onset
of World War II. As the conflict reached Estonia, Okas was mobilized into the Soviet army. This period of upheaval uprooted him from his studies and his home, placing him instead in the work battalions of Kotlas, Russia.
