In 1519, King Carlos I proposed to hold court by delegation, sending an embassy to Valencia presided over by the bishop of Tortosa, Cardinal Adrian of Utrecht (later Pope Adrian VI), which would provoke the indignation of the nobles and the twinned guilds.
