Last Leaves
1906
100.0 x 201.0 cm
In this artwork Catti shows one of Palermo’s main streets, Via Libertà, by providing a very personal, introspective view inspired by symbolist principles and with a melancholic mood. The painting enhances the skilful and strong expressive rendering of the humid environment and wet ground which reflects figures of people rushing about, in middle-class clothes, while they are strolling along the street, together with the different shades of colour of the green trees and of the dried-up ones as well.
