Frühes Leben und Einflüsse Geburt und Familie: Elioth Lauritz Leganyer Gruner wurde am 16. Dezember 1882 in Gisborne, Neuseeland, als jüngerer Sohn des norwegischstämmigen Friedensrichters Elliott Grüner und seiner irischen Frau Mary Ann geboren.
